DIAG360°: the SAUR solution for the continual diagnostic analysis of wastewater treatment systems

|

Implementing continual diagnostic analysis requires manpower, tools and total data management solutions. The wastewater systems operator is usually best placed to support the implementation process, which is why Saur can offer local authorities powerful data processing and value extraction, assistance and decision-making support based on its feedback as a wastewater treatment operator: that solution is called DIAG360°...

Providing more effective protection for the natural environment, maintaining public health and asset sustainability, making objective measurements of service performance and the impact and effectiveness of work completed, and controlling performance through closed-circuit continuous improvement: these are the ambitious targets of the continual diagnostic analysis process that had to be implemented by December 31st, 2021 for the wastewater systems of all urban communities with more than 10,000 population equivalent (PE). Between now and the end of 2024, the requirement will be extended to include all local authority areas with more than 2,000 PE.

To help local authorities comply with these new responsibilities, SAUR has built a truly innovative solution for managing every link in the decision-support data chain. That solution is called DIAG360°.

It involves the Group Operations Control Center and the SAUR operation with all its expertise.

It has been developed out of years of feedback to create a concentrated body of good practices to be shared in ways that benefit everyone involved.

DIAG360°: developed by experts

SAUR DIAG360° comprises four key elements:

DIAG360°

1️⃣ A continuous 360° overview of the wastewater treatment contract based on the cross-referenced analysis of a set of risk criteria applied at 3 levels:

  • The contract overview level, which includes the data published in the annual reports of the concession holder or the public-sector water company
  • The wastewater treatment system level, which means the treatment plant itself, and all the drainage systems and structures upstream of it
  • The ideal level of analysis is the drainage catchment area: the entire system drained by a limit point (e.g. pumping station)

2️⃣ A single reporting platform to provide the local authority with a coherent overview

3️⃣ Operational management based on closed-circuit continuous improvement for each of the risks relating to the individual levels described, in order to initiate specific and targeted actions

4️⃣ Guaranteed monitoring of system performance using four major families of indicators: overall performance indicators, operational (often contractual) indicators, crisis feedback indicators and indicators to measure the impact of work completed by the operator and the local authority.

By combining data management and reliability screening with operational expertise and simple, appropriate analytical tools applied to the drainage catchment area, the SAUR DIAG360° solution provides local authorities with more accurate targeting of the actions they need to take. Local authorities then have the information they need to assess the impact of their investments, at the same time as ensuring compliance with regulations, and protecting both the natural environment and public health.

The result is a more efficient wastewater treatment system and clearer visibility of the impact of the work completed by the local authority.
