Boosting industrial wastewater treatment plant performance with expert support from Nijhuis Saur Industries

|

Managing an industrial wastewater treatment plant requires a certain amount of expertise; the kind of expertise Saur Industrie can make available to help its customers boost the performance of their treatment systems. The company’s teams of committed and highly qualified specialists are now themselves supported by a powerful communication package developed to provide expert management of industry challenges.

Building a relationship of trust with industrial companies

In today’s world, industrial wastewater treatment plants can no longer be considered as inevitable fixed cost centers. In addition to enabling industrial companies to comply with specific regulatory obligations as they apply to waste, they are also accurate indicators of how well an industrial plant is running. From optimizing reagent and energy consumption to byproduct recovery, the issue of performance is now an integral part of development projects for this type of unit.

With its substantial expertise in the design, construction and operation of industrial wastewater treatment plants, Saur Industrie understands that successful project outcomes rely primarily on building trust-based relationships with its customer base of industrial companies.

The on-site treatment plant operator is particularly important in this relationship, and is selected and appointed for its commitment to the project and forward management skills. This trust-based relationship is also underpinned by the Saur Industrie management team, which is always available to intervene when more challenging issues arise.

Nextep: a communication resource that powers performance

As part of consolidating this relationship, Saur has consulted and worked directly with its industrial customers to develop the user-friendly communication software package called Nextep with the shared aim of enabling efficient management of industrial wastewater treatment plants

The heart of the system is the shared monitoring of all technical and financial performance parameters. These include not only plant operating data, including raw effluent quality and treated effluent, but also information on treatment plant operating costs generated on the basis of monitoring parameters such as:

  • energy
  • reagent consumption
  • waste production

Perhaps the most important aspect of Nextep is its ability to share these data with the industrial user on-screen in the form of clearly understandable performance curves. This shared information feedback console is available to all production plant stakeholders (from the environmental manager to the site manager and maintenance manager), as well as the industrial wastewater treatment plant operator Saur Industrie. It provides both with at-a-glance oversight of discharge compliance parameters, as well as the set of continuous and transparent performance indicators essential for efficient operation of the entire site.

End-to-end monitoring of the water cycle

For the time being, the software focuses on treatment plant operation, but also offers a number of additional functions, including generation of GIDAF regulatory declarations (GIDAF is the French environment agency’s computerized frequent self-monitoring data management system) and a document database specific to the unit installed at the manufacturing facility.

The eventual intention is to extend Nextep functionality to cover the entire water cycle and provide accurate consumption monitoring of water entering the facility, as well as wastewater treatment plant performance. This is important, because the two are inextricably linked. This facility will allow industrial users to monitor their water consumption to a very high level of accuracy as the basis for implementing projects to reuse treated wastewater.

Nextep was developed a year ago by Saur Industrie, and was tested under real-life conditions in a number of manufacturing facilities before its market launch in early 2021. Naturally, this system would be pointless without appropriate operator training, so the experts at Saur Industrie are there to introduce you to every detail of this innovative communication solution and the full range of its functionality.
